We aim to instill a life-long love of swimming and to build a program of excellence in training, team unity, character development and family support where every swimmer from every background has the opportunity to achieve their potential and compete at the highest level.

ABOUT US

Torquay Leander is a non-profit making organisation and SwimMark registered club.Β  As a club we are dedicated to the improvement and progression of all our swimmers including all ages and social backgrounds.

We aim to develop and encourage good sportsmanship, team spirit and provide an environment in which swimmers can realise their full potential.

More than 900 swimmers from over 30 counties come together at Ponds Forge in Sheffield to compete for their county. πŸŽ‰ CONGRATULATIONS ED & ASHBY! πŸŽ‰πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈWe are delighted to share some fantastic news about Ed and Ashby, who have both been accepted onto the Swim England β€˜DiSE’ programme!The Diploma in Sporting Excellence in Swimming (DiSE) will run over the next two years and represents the 5th β€˜rung’ on the Swim England talent pathway β€” a fantastic achievement for both boys. πŸ‘Ed and Ashby will now take part in a two-year training programme funded by Sport England, with Swim England and Loughborough College working together to deliver the course.The boys have been selected as athletes who are training and competing at high levels. During the two years, they will attend a combination of online and in-person workshops, all designed to support their development as athletes.The programme will cover many important areas, including:πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ The behaviours and values associated with high-level swimmingβš–οΈ How to manage and balance their lifestyles🧠 How to develop healthy mental health strategies🚫 Understanding the rules of anti-doping in swimmingAs well as this, they will receive individual training to advance their tactical, technical and physical swimming skills, with a possible view to being selected to race internationally! πŸŒπŸ†The DiSE programme is also an academic qualification, which is open to selected swimmers from the age of 16. Ed and Ashby will be required to study and submit work for the qualification alongside their Sixth Form/College studies.On completion of the course, they could receive a qualification that is equivalent to more than an A* at A-level β€” an incredible opportunity and recognition of the level of commitment required from these young athletes. πŸ“šπŸ‘Both boys are incredibly excited to have been recognised for their efforts and dedication to swimming so far, and they are looking forward to sharing some of what they learn with the swimmers at Torquay Leander.Below is a reminder of the Swim England talent pathway.
